“Yet
the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will worship the
Father in spirit and truth. For the Father seeks such to worship Him. God
is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.”
John 4:23, 24
Why does Jesus talk about
worshiping God in spirit and in truth?
Many are those who worship
Him with their mouths, but in their hearts they are rebellious and disobedient.
God desires people who are sincere and not religious, that is, people that
glorify Him with their lives. And not people that are worried about pretending
something or "complying" with external rituals.
Now I would like to
clarify one thing that has been making many people stumble. God is Spirit and
therefore his worshipers should not expect to feel emotions or some reaction in
their flesh the moment they seek Him. The presence of God is not based on sensations
or feelings, but on certainty, in faith.
It may be difficult for
many because the human being is accustomed to be guided by what he sees,
touches or feels. When we worship God we do not see, touch or feel Him, but we
are sure that He hears us.
This is only possible
through faith! It gives us the condition of having a relationship with God
based on intelligence and not on emotions.
So do not think that when
you receive the Holy Spirit you have to feel something, cry, and laugh, etc. but
faith in the Word of God that gives you the assurance; this is the rational
worship that pleases God.
I hope I have helped to
clarify this misconception of many.
Stay in faith!
