Experiences on the Altar – Surrendering my desire of being mother!

“My name is Elaine Scheffer, and today I am going to talk to you about surrendering my desire of being mother.

Since I was a girl, I desired to become a mother; I had already picked my children’s names and used to dream of it. I got married before I turned 18 and within eight months of being married, we decided not to have biological children. I think it was one of the most difficult decisions I had to make. I confess that it was tearfully and in pain that my husband and I decided to surrender our “Isaac”.

I can remember it as if it were today when we made that decision, we knew there was no turning back. As my husband left out the door , right there in the kitchen I got on my knees and prayed to God, I surrendered my dream to Him, put myself in His hands and said:

“My God, today we are going to make our sacrifice on the Altar and give you our Isaac, here we let go of our dream of bearing our children, of continuing my husband’s family line, since he is his father’s only male child. That decision involves a lot of things. I do not want to repent; I do not do your work because of that or because of the church but for Jesus. In exchange of that, all I ask is that You use us Lord, take us where others cannot go, make of our lives a reference in your hands and may our sacrifice save souls.

When I finished my prayer, I left with the assurance that that prayer was answered, when I received my husband back home, I felt peace.

I cannot say that the following days were easy or that I have never had the desire of having a child, no! The sacrifice hurts, it has to hurt but the assurance of the victory is bigger that the pain of sacrifice, on that day I asked God I wanted to serve Him abroad, I wanted to do the Work of God in others countries and because of that I would not have children.

God heard my prayer. We had the privilege of doing the work of God in Chile for eight years, in Bolivia for four years and for almost two years we have been in the United States. God gave us many children in faith, more than I could have imagined.

It was a sacrifice that brought victories, a surrender that bore fruits!

My friend, if God has asked you something, do not be afraid of giving that up. It could be a bad habit, a dream, a desire or a feeling, give it to Him, do not doubt because God’s thoughts are higher than ours!”
