A Mother’s Mission – 2 – Be the example

Just talking about it isn’t enough; children want to see, because like I am sure you have noticed they imitate everything you do.

Sometimes you tell your child to do things you yourself don’t do, so your request to them are empty words, which won’t bring results. You say:

“You can’t lie, if I find out that you are lying to mommy, you are going to be in big trouble!”

But your child sees that every now and then you tell a lie yourself.

Or you say:

“Did you already pray, before going to bed?”

But maybe he never sees you praying.

Or

“You can’t smoke or drink, that’s not allowed”

But you do it all the time.

Or

“You can’t hit kids at school, you need to be nice and control yourself.”

But, at home the child sees his mom yell at dad and vice-versa, and because of this he’s become a troubled child, and maybe you hadn’t noticed but that the atmosphere you transmit at home influences your child’s character and personality.

Your child has to see in you, an example he can follow, then you will have complete authority on what you tell them to do, because you practice what you teach.

What matters and what works is when your words are accompanied by actions and testimonies.

We are completely aware that there is no manual on how to raise a child, but with the help of the Word of God and seeking His wisdom you can be comforted that you are not alone.

Eve, as the first woman created by God and the first mother on earth didn’t have a human example to follow, she didn’t have anyone who could guide her or give her advice on how to act with her children, she didn’t have anyone to tell her how to act in each situation or what to do when her baby cried. Have you thought about that? She didn’t even have a mom near by to ask for help, or guidance, but God was the perfect example for Eve, like He is for all the parents who feel incapable of such responsibility.

You, Mom, don’t be afraid, you will be able to complete this challenge, of raising your child, but remember that your actions speak much louder than words.

Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it.” Proverbs 22:6

I myself am not a mother, but I had the experience growing up of having not the best example at home and that influencing my childhood alot. My parents, thank God, are now living happily but I am sure that back then they hadn't realized how much children observe and learn from their parents. This is wonderful and sure to help many parents!

Certainly children learn from what they see more than what they hear. From this article I learned that the atmosphere we set at home influences our child's personality and character. And whilst there is no manual on how to raise a child, depending on the word of God for advice is vitale.
